How to create engaging content on social media
When it comes to posting on social media, you really don’t have to invent the wheel in terms of content. One of the biggest hangups business owners get is that they have to be witty, original, create blog style copy each and every time and somehow be different than everyone else out there. The truth is there are some basic principles to help create engaging content on social media without having to sweat over what to post.
Here are some of my favorite ways to create engaging content on social media.
Educate your audience about your area of expertise.
One of the fastest ways to become an expert and build that level of authority is to share your knowledge with your audience. Sharing tips about your industry or new products that may have come out helps others see how much you know and they will begin to trust your opinions on that subject.
For instance if you are a service provider, sharing changes in your industry or new programs you’ve tried are great ways to educate. Even something as simple as a trick you’ve learned can be insightful to someone following you.
If you are a product based industry, then sharing your knowledge about your products and what they can do for your audience will set you apart from the competition.
Any chance you get to share your knowledge and experience will go a long way in building your authority and expertise to your audience.
Entertainment belongs in all businesses
There are far too many businesses who believe that they need to stay “professional” and “proper” on social media. This idea really needs to be thrown out. Social media is designed for being social. And one of the best ways for sociability is through entertainment.
This doesn’t mean you have to be a class clown, or post crude jokes and such. It means you post content that entertains based on your audience. Let’s say you’re in the beauty space. Chances are your audience would appreciate some beauty memes like these:
Almost everyone can relate to a good meme, no matter what industry you’re in. Meme’s, good jokes, funny and relatable entertainment goes a long way in your reach and visibility of your brand (especially when you can recreate them for your business). People always love to share this kind of content and it shows that your brand isn’t a stuffy “corporate” type with no sense of humour. Finding ways in which you can entertain your audience will help you build that brand recognition and keep them coming back for more.
Engage with your audience
Posting engaging content on social media allows you to do a few things. First, it encourages your following to elicit a response to something. People love answering questions that speak to them on a human level. So don’t underestimate the power of a simple question or opinion giving such as how do you take your coffee?
Second, when you use engaging content in a way to help build your brand, you can ask questions for market research that can help you to create the products and services they require. When done right, your audience won’t even object to answering those questions and do so willingly.
Each of these methods are designed to help build your brand recognition and increase your reach to new audiences. None of them require you to reinvent the wheel and come up with elaborate ways to speak to your following, and can be posted within a few short minutes on your social media.
